Discography

But even though the band have a wide range of musical backgrounds their biggest breakthrough came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a major blockbuster, but not without difficulties. The record companies placed the band under pressure to release an album that was a success or they would rescind them. Luckily for Toto they did, with the help of the smash hit single "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. This album starts off hard with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into your mind. The album also contains jazzier, slower tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and distortion AOR that could sound completely wrong but actually is very effective.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes turned for the worse. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career and the band had to go through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in wake of drug charges and the band continued as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Despite the turbulence, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation however, which was not as successful as IV. However, the band still managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. This album marked the end of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more precise, sharper and less cloned previously recorded recordings.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to find songs that hadn't been recorded before. It was completed in the form of a double-album called Then And Now in 2001. It was the band's first album that did not contain a single song titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin.
