How to Replace an replacement Key audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, Audi Car Key Case fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good news is that they are quite affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at a Bosch model, which is what we have. Alternately, GM's version this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues with your car.
