Components

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs and there are also a few rare glyphs to be found as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you will require them to be put on your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Leveling

The system of upgrading items allows players to increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is often referred to as "upping". Every upgradeable item has an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of an item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When a player upgrade the equipment they have, the base Best item upgrade is replaced by the new item. The same armor will receive a weapon or a shield when upgraded.
